Meskwaki Annual Powwow

August 8, 2019 @ 1:00 pm – August 11, 2019 @ 11:00 pm
The Meskwaki Annual Powwow is the only one of its kind in Iowa and is held on the only Indian Settlement in Iowa.
Beginning as a celebration known as “Field Days”, the first powwows were 10 days long and held after the fall harvest.  They featured dancing, games and horse racing!
Today, the Meskwaki Annual Powwow is a four day event with a Princess Contest held the Wednesday evening before the powwow begins on Thursday.
Featuring traditional Meskwaki dancing, singing, native arts, crafts, our historic exhibition tent, and food, we invite you to share in what is truly distinctive about the Meskwaki way of life.
