Our Mission
To support, defend, and advance the interests of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa by providing legal services to the Tribal Council and its subordinate departments, committees, agencies, offices, and businesses. In the discharge of this function, the Office acts in an advisory and ministerial capacity.
About the Attorney General’s Office
The Tribal Council is the client of the Attorney General. The Legal Department will strive to provide professional, competent, comprehensive and timely services in all matters related to the client’s constitutional functions as the executive and legislative branches of the Tribal government. The Attorney General is under the ultimate supervision and direction of the Tribal Council.
The major functions of the Office of the Attorney General are to do the following:
- Protect the Community’s sovereignty from encroachment
- Provide legal advice to the Tribal Council and its subordinate departments
- Represent the Community and its representatives in judicial, legislative, executive, and administrative proceedings
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies
Our Vision
The Office of the Attorney General aims to serve the diverse needs of the Meskwaki Community by:

- Anticipating and understanding the needs of the Tribal Council, Tribal Departments, and the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel
- Delivering our services efficiently and in a culturally sensitive and relevant matter
- Positively influencing the practice of law as it affects the Tribal bar
- Delivering a mix of relevant, timely services including information and education such as about how to avoid becoming the victim of consumer fraud through informational brochures, press releases, and newsletter
What We Do
The Office of the Attorney General serves as legal advisor to the Tribal Council. Under the policy direction of the Tribal Council, the Office also provides legal services to department heads, directors, officers, employees, and staff of the Meskwaki Community and Community Enterprises. The Office also acts as liaison to other sovereign Indian nations as well as federal, state, and local governments, court systems, professional associations, and interest groups on matters of interest to the Community.
