Meskwaki Member to participate in American Council of Young Political Leaders’ Exchange to Macedonia

Christina Blackcloud, Meskwaki Nation, has been invited by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) to participate in a two-week exchange to Macedonia, Europe occurring March 4 – 15, 2019.

“I am honored and excited to travel abroad,” stated Blackcloud. “I was nominated in 2016 by former Iowa Senator and ACYPL alumna, Jeff Danielson. The ACYPL exchange is highly competitive. The group advised that an exchange might not even happen during my time with them. You can imagine my surprise when I received the phone call! I look forward to understanding governmental policies and plan to focus on self-governance, aging, environmental, and economic development.”

Twice, Christina was elected and attended the Democratic National Convention, participating as an at-large delegate for Iowa.
Each year, with support from the United States Department of State, their international partner organizations, and a wide range of corporations, foundations, and individuals, ACYPL conducts a variety of exchanges for rising political leaders from across the United States and around the world. ACYPL has a network of over 8,500 alumni in 128 countries and territories.

ACYPL programs are designed for bipartisan groups of emerging leaders under the age of 40 to experience other country’s political environment. For 8-14 days, participants visit the capital and 1-2 other cities to meet with government officials, political parties, elected leaders, policy experts, and members of the business community.”
