On Friday, November 7, team members from Meskwaki Tribal Operations came together to assist in setting up the new Meskwaki Food Pantry. The pantry was created to support community members affected by recent reductions in food assistance programs.
Volunteers worked diligently to clean out the former wellness center, assemble shelves and tables, shop for groceries at Walmart, collect donations/food items from Fareway and El Gallito in Tama, and load/unload trucks. Thanks to their dedication, the pantry was fully stocked and ready to open its doors on Monday.
A special shout-out to Quincy Grittmann for spearheading and leading the organization of this important effort. Your leadership and coordination were instrumental in making this initiative a success.
Our sincere appreciation goes out to all team members who contributed their time and effort to make this endeavor possible.
A note from Quincy Grittmann: “I want to give a special shout-out to everyone who came together to make the Food Pantry possible. A huge thank you to the Tribal Council and our Executive Directors for their leadership and initiative, as well as to Grants, MNR, and Workforce Development for heading the project.
Shout-out to Facilities, Apprenticeship, Food Sovereignty, Red Earth Gardens, Public Works, Tribal Court, the Rec Center, the P-Tec program, and Media for your incredible teamwork and support. From designing flyers to shopping, loading and unloading, stocking, organizing, assembling shelves, completing electrical work, managing inventory, and ordering food—none of this could have happened without each of you.
Because of your dedication and collaboration, this project became a reality in mere days. Thank you all for making a difference in our community.”
