About the Meskwaki Grants and Planning Office

GRANTS: The Grants & Planning Department supports Departments through strategic and operational planning and through grants to support projects that implement strategic goals and objectives.

PLANNING: All work efforts focus on effectively meeting the needs of the Meskwaki Nation and its membership. The Tribal Planner is responsible for shaping the Tribal government strategy, developing plans, analyzing underlying data, and aligning goals to achieve the Tribe’s priority objectives.

What We Do

The Grants & Planning Department combines the efforts of strategic planning and grant operations to support the Tribe’s ability to achieve its goals through department project implementation.

Tribal Planning activities currently include support for the following planning activities: Strategic-including plans specific to Justice, Seniors, Economic Development, Energy, and Language Preservation; Operational plans for Transportation & Hazard Mitigation; Comprehensive planning to finance the activities included in the strategic plan & operational plan; New planning for other programs and for developing programs.

Steps in the granting process include coordination with all administrative services and departments in:

• Grant search (ongoing general research and specific searches at request of Departments/Executive)
• Grant application (coordinated with Departments to include all required documents and timely submission of applications)
• Grant onboarding (access to grantor on-line systems, assuring appropriate signatures on final award documents, entry in Tribe’s electronic grant management system: eCivis)
• Grant kick-off (review of terms and conditions of the contract and financial & performance reporting needs)
• Grant implementation & compliance (performance and financial reports)
• Grant closure

Funded awards to the Meskwaki Tribe include grants, contracts, joint funding agreement, and cooperative agreements that provide financial and technical resources to the Tribe to accomplish the Tribe’s objectives.
