Meskwaki Community Represented at 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Meskwaki Nation is pleased to share that members of our community will be part of this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 27, 2025 in New York City, performing with nine Indigenous dancers from across the United States and Canada as part of Native Pride Productions. The group estimates their performance will be showcased on NBC between 10:00 to 10:30 am.
Leading the performance is Larry Yazzie, founder and Executive Director of Native Pride Productions, based in Jacksonville, Florida. A Meskwaki descendant who grew up on the Settlement, Larry is a two-time World Champion Fancy Dancer, Men’s Northern Traditional dancer, and Eagle Dancer. He has performed at the Olympics, The Kennedy Center, and the Smithsonian Institution, and as a solo singer, eagle dancer, and men’s fancy dancer, and has traveled internationally to countries including Japan, Australia, France, Ireland, Brazil, Guatemala, the Republic of Moldova, and the Kingdom of Jordan.
Locally, Larry is a familiar presence at Meskwaki powwows, often serving as Master of Ceremonies, head dancer, or volunteer. Though very much a hometown presence, Larry’s influence is larger than life. His dedication to sharing Native dance, mentoring young performers, and representing Indigenous culture has made him a shining example for the next generation. He founded Native Pride Productions to give back to his community and share Indigenous cultural traditions with audiences everywhere. This will be his third time participating in the parade.
Among the featured performers is 15-year-old Corbin Shuckahosee, a sophomore at South Tama High School, and his mother, Kathy Shuckahosee, a lifelong dancer and Maternal Health Specialist at the Meskwaki Health Clinic. The Shuckahosee family spend much of the year traveling across the United States and Canada attending powwows, connecting with friends, and dancing.
Corbin is a sophomore at South Tama High School with a 3.8 GPA, excelling in mathematics and science, and enjoys his welding class. He participates in football, where he has served as team captain, basketball, track and field, and soccer, and has played on the club soccer team “Team Iowa” and an All-Indian basketball team. He previously competed in archery, qualifying for state competitions multiple times. Outside of school and sports, Corbin enjoys fishing and spending time outdoors with friends.
Kathy Shuckahosee brings years of experience in woodland dance, emphasizing subtle footwork, dignified movements, and the intricate use of appliqué designs in regalia. Her lifelong dedication to dance reflects the strength and beauty of our cultural traditions. You’ll often see her acting as head woman dancer at Meskwaki powwows.
In addition to her dance, Kathy leads the Meskwaki Health Clinic’s Maternal Health Program, a home visiting initiative that supports the healing, growth, and wellness of Meskwaki and surrounding Native families. Through education, encouragement, and connection, she fosters strong, loving families and serves as a role model for positive parenting in the community.
The participation of Meskwaki dancers in this nationally recognized event is an opportunity to share our heritage with audiences across the country. Larry, Corbin, and Kathy are honored to represent our community, bringing Native Pride and Meskwaki traditions to millions of viewers and we’re excited to watch them.
