PUBLIC NOTICE TO THE MESKWAKI PEOPLE:
As of January 28, 2025, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget has directed all federal agencies to temporarily halt their grant, loan, and financial assistance programs. Although a judge has temporarily blocked this Executive Action, Meskwaki Tribal Council and Executive team are closely monitoring all developments related to any changes in federal policy. In response to the Trump administration’s abrupt decision to freeze federal grants and loans, we are actively assessing the immediate and potential impact to the Meskwaki community.
While this issue has triggered a national panic, we refuse to fall into the chaos it may be designed to create. If implemented, the scope of this freeze would be unprecedented, with far-reaching consequences that we believe undermine Congress’s constitutional powers. Our approach is to stay patient and allow the situation to unfold, while taking necessary steps to safeguard our programs and ensure the well-being of our people.
We will continue to provide accurate information regarding all the above issues and immediately alert the community of updates as they become available. These are uncertain times, but the Meskwaki people have existed since time immemorial. We will endure. We will remain.
