Becoming an Enrolled Member of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa

Tribal Enrollment with the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa has requirements meant to preserve the culture and traditions of the Meskwaki people. Membership criteria are set forth in our constitution.

Steps to Become an Enrolled Member 

Anyone wishing to become a member of the Meskwaki Tribe must pick up and fill out an application packet, which is available at the Enrollment Office. Along with filling out the application, applicants are required to submit the following: 

• Certified Birth Certificate with enrolled father’s name
• Paternity Statement signed by the father and notarized
• Family Tree
• DNA Test
• Social Security Card

All information is confidential. The burden of proof shall remain on the applicant to establish eligibility for membership. Once the application is complete and the applicant turns in all requirements, a seven-member committee will review the application. This committee is appointed by the Tribal Council and oversees the enrollment process. The committee will review the application and make a recommendation to the Tribal Council who makes the final decision to enroll.

Enrolled Tribal Member Information Changes

Tribal members need to notify the Enrollment Department of any address changes, deaths, births, or any other changes. 

If you’ve recently moved, please fill out and sign a Change of Address Form to update our records.

*NOTICE TO ENROLLED MEMBERS:  Please note that the Enrollment Department will no longer give out copies of birth certificates and/or social security cards.
