Buffalo Butchering & Foraging Event

Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Red Earth Gardens All-Day Event
8:30 am to 5 pm Buffalo Butchering w/ Lisa and Arlo Iron Cloud
- (Dress appropriately, and plan to get dirty assisting with the Buffalo butchering)
- MS/HS students (7th to 12th grade) can participate in the butchering.
- Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grades will be bussed out during culture classes to observe the butchering process.
- Time TBA-MS/HS boys and community members interested in the processing of the hide for rawhide.
12 pm to 1 pm
- Lunch Break (On Your Own)
- (MNR will provide lunch for staff that are assisting in the event)
1:15 pm to 5 pm
- Continue with the Butchering process packaging of the meat and processing of the hide.

Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Red Earth Gardens
8 am to 12 pm
- Finish up any processing of the Buffalo meat and hide.
12 pm to 1 pm
- Lunch Provided MFS (Will be using the Buffalo from the butchering)
1:15 pm to 5 pm
- A foraging walk with Linda and Luke Black Elk at South Farm/MNR.
Thursday, September 7, 2023
8:30 am to 3:30 pm
- Is reserved for the MSS Culture classes to forage with Linda and Luke Black Elk.
5 pm Dinner Closing of the Event @ the Meskwaki Tribal Gymnasium

- Menu – Buffalo Liver and Onions, Buffalo and Indian corn, Roasted Buffalo, Wild Rice, Squash, Mixed Berries, fry bread, and Drinks
