Meskwaki Civics 101 – Talking Circle

Meskwaki Workforce in collaboration with representatives from Meskwaki Attorney General’s Office will be hosting this month’s Community Empowerment Talking Circle. The presentation will begin by discussing key federal laws that establish requirements or restrictions on Tribal government actions, such as the Indian Civil Rights Act. It will then move on to explain the Meskwaki Tribal Constitution, which forms the foundation of the Tribal government and defines its powers. Finally, the presentation will outline how the Tribal Council exercises these powers through the Tribal code and various Tribal departments. The presentation will end with coverage of the ways members can participate in their governance.
