The Meskwaki Nation Opposes Casino Expansion in Iowa

The Meskwaki Nation opposes casino expansion in Iowa.

For the Meskwaki Tribe, the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel isn’t just another entertainment venue. It’s a tool for self-determination, a source of revenue that allows us to provide for our people as well as invest in the communities around us.

The Meskwaki Nation is the largest employer in Tama County. Casino expansion in our state would lead to economic dilution, where each casino, including the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel, would face reduced revenue. We could see fewer jobs created and layoffs due to decreased demand. It would destabilize our community and reverse the gains we’ve worked so hard to achieve throughout our region.

It would directly impact local funding for essential services like healthcare, education, elder care, social services and community infrastructure. The loss of revenue would also affect programs vital to the preservation of our culture, language, and history, as these programs depend heavily on the financial stability provided by the casino’s earnings.

While we understand that some may see opportunities for more gaming in the region, we believe it’s crucial to consider the long-term consequences to communities like ours. Please support our opposition to any new licenses granted throughout the state.
