War Bonnet Returns Home

A war bonnet presented to the former President of the Iowa State Safety Council, W. Earl Hall, was gifted back to the Tribe by his grandson David Hall. As stated in an October 4, 1939 Lake Mills, Iowa newspaper, W.E. Hall was adopted into the Meskwaki Tribe as Chief Careful Rein during a ceremony at a Rice Lake outing. According to Johnathon Buffalo, Historical Preservation Director, Hall’s bonnet is the first of its kind to be returned back to the Tribe.
