The Meskwaki Veteran Powwow on December 6, 2025 filled the Tribal Center Gym with community pride, honoring veterans and celebrating tradition throughout the evening. The event opened with a shared potluck dinner, followed by the Princess Contest, which featured public speaking and dance presentations from all candidates. Congratulations to Mayela Alva, the newly crowned Meskwaki Veterans Junior Princess, and to Dorothy Bear who continues her reign as the Meskwaki Veterans Princess.
Head staff helped guide the evening with strength and respect. Robert Morgan Post 701 served as Color Guard, Eagle Feather was the Host Drum, Arlo Wanatee was Headman, and Dayci Davenport was Headwoman. Matt Bear announced, Tyler Lasley directed the arena, and Luke Kapayou gave the invocation.
The Grand Entry led into a full schedule of songs and specials, including Tiny Tots, Jr Scrub Special, and the Teen Applique Washboard Special. Additional highlights included intertribal dances, Potato Dance, and the Veterans Special sponsored by the family of Dorothy Bear. The evening closed with round dances that brought everyone together in unity and celebration.
The 2025 Meskwaki Veteran Powwow honored veterans, lifted up youth, and strengthened the cultural spirit of the Meskwaki community.
