On Thursday, June 19, the Meskwaki Senior Services made a special visit to Meskwaki Natural Resources for a sage harvest outing. With the sun shining and wildflowers in full bloom, it was a beautiful day to connect with the land and honor our traditions.
MNR staff graciously welcomed and assisted our elders as they carefully gathered sage, a plant held sacred in our culture for its healing and cleansing properties. Before the harvest, Elder Preston Duncan led a prayer and offered tobacco, giving thanks to the land and our ancestors for their gifts. His words reminded us of the deep spiritual connection we carry with the natural world. It was a peaceful, meaningful experience that brought together generations, culture, and community.
A heartfelt thank you to the Meskwaki Natural Resources team for hosting and supporting this beautiful day. Outings like these nourish more than our spirits, they strengthen our ties to the land and to one another. 🌿❤️🐝
