Meskwaki Senior Services and guests traveled to Meskwaki Natural Resources at South Farm on Wednesday, July 1, for a field trip centered on harvesting prairie sage and learning more about the plants growing throughout the fields.
During the visit, MNR staff escorted the group and shared their knowledge about how to respectfully harvest sage. They also provided information about other native plants, flowers, and pollinators blooming at the time, including Daisy Fleabane, Black-eyed Susans, Wild Bergamot “bee balm,” Verbena, Wild Indigo, and Butterfly Milkweed.
Thank you to the MNR staff for guiding the harvesters and sharing their knowledge of the land.
