This Fun Run/Walk will be held at the Meskwaki Health Clinic. Registration at 5:00 pm, and the Run/Walk begins at 5:30 pm!

Route: Start and Finish at the Clinic – Clinic to the Casino stop sign and back. Seniors may walk at their own discretion.

Meskwaki Nation Hemp Department is having a Logo Contest! Artists needed to help the Hemp Department design its new logo.

Submit your design idea to hd.exec@meskwaki-nsn.gov by Friday, September 20th at 4:30 pm. Winner to be chosen and announced on September 25th.

A two-day Meskwaki Traditional Arts Workshop is being held on Saturday and Sunday September 21-22 at the Meskwaki Powwow Grounds. *If inclement weather alternate venue will be the Meskwaki Tribal Center.

The following stations will be set up from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm:

• Woodcarving with Luke Kapayou
• Cattail Mat Weaving with Bess Scott
• Bulrush Mat Weaving and Twined Bags with Nina Young Bear, Brenda Wanatee and Kelly Schott
• Basketry with Toni Lasley

Come on out and try your hand at one of these traditional art forms!

Meskwaki High School Presents: “A Night Under the Stars” 2019 Homecoming

Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the Meskwaki High School. Tickets are on sale now, $5.00 per ticket.

Formal Attire is required.

The Meskwaki Diabetes Program and Meskwaki Ag and Food Sovereignty Departments will be hosting a Home Canning Workshop on Wednesday, September 25 from 5pm – 8pm at the Meskwaki Health Clinic.

Participants will learn the basics of home canning and pickling including some simple recipes featuring seasonally available produce!

Come prepared for hands on learning and to take home samples!

You’re invited to participate in a meeting regarding the 2020 Census!

Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 1:00 pm in the East Conference Room of the Meskwaki Tribal Center.

The Meskwaki Youth Program along with co-hosts: University of Iowa Lacrosse Team, and the IA Mavericks Girls Lacrosse Coaches Clinic will be sponsoring a Lacrosse Camp to be held on Saturday, September 28th.

This Lacrosse Camp will be held on September 28th, from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm for Boys and Girls in Grades 3rd – 6th at the Meskwaki Settlement School Football Field (1610 305th Street, Tama, IA 52339).

The Halloween Committee will be having a meeting on Sunday, September 29th about the planning of this years Meskwaki Community Halloween Masquerade.

This meeting will be held in the Tribal Chambers from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

If you are interested in helping with the planning of this year’s Masquerade Party please attend this meeting.

NOMINATIONS:

The Nomination process for the General Election will determine the candidates for the Primary Election. The nomination process for the Special Election will also be determined on this date. There will be a Nominations Meeting on Tuesday, OCTOBER 1, 2019 in the Tribal Gymnasium. This meeting will start promptly at 7:00 p.m.

In the event a quorum of 30% eligible voters is not present at the Nominations Meeting held Tuesday, October 1, 2019 a SECOND Nominations Meeting will be held Wednesday, OCTOBER 2, 2019 in the Tribal Gymnasium to start promptly at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and close promptly at 7:00 p.m. Title 8 Sec. 8-4402 and Title 8 Sec. 8-4604.

During the first week of October (2nd – 6th) Meskwaki Public Works will be conducting their biannual Hydrant Flushing week on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Hydrant Flushing is done twice a year to enhance water quality by flushing sediment from water mains, verifying the proper operation of hydrants and valves. It also ensures firefighting capability.

During hydrant flushing week please take note of these possible changes in your water and the additional information/tips on what to do after the hydrant flushing:

• There may be a temporary drop in water pressure
• Water may be rusty or cloudy. Discolored water IS NOT harmful and will clear up in a few hours.
• Do not wash white laundry during this period – wait until both cold/hot water are running clear before laundering whites.
• Avoid washing laundry during scheduled flushing times. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap, and then wash a load of dark clothes first.
• If tap water is used during flushing, it could come out full of sediment that causes discoloration. If you encounter discoloration, run cold water for a few minutes allowing new water to work its way into your pipes. If the water is clear, its OK to use. If not, wait for a few minutes and check again. The discoloration only affects the appearance of the water; it does not affect the taste of quality.
• If pressure or volume seems low, check your faucet screens for trapped particles.

The Diabetes Program will be hosting a Fun Walk/Run on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Meskwaki Health Clinic. Registration will begin at 5:00 pm and the Walk/Run will start at 5:30 pm!

This year the Diabetes Program has signed up to make this Walk/Run a part of Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative! Everyone who participates will count towards helping get our entire state a bit more active.

There will be T-Shirts, Giveaways and Snacks after the Walk/Run! We can’t wait to see you there!

A Tribal Council Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, 2019. This meeting will be held in the Tribal Chambers and begin at 5:00 pm. Enrolled Tribal Members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
