
The Meskwaki Cultural Center and Museum will be hosting a guest speaker on Friday, May 3rd. Dr. Michael Luick-Thrams is visiting the United States from Germany, and has scheduled a lecture here on the Settlement. He will be discussing WW11, and specifically Prisoners of War. His presentation will cover the “Wider Context Behind Meskwaki Prisoners of War in Nazi Germany”. This lecture will begin at 7:00 pm and will last until 8:00 pm, with time for questions and remarks at the conclusion.
This event is open to the public.

On Thursday, May 9th at 11:30 a.m. FEMA will be on site for a signing ceremony.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Tribe will come together to enter into a FEMA-Tribal Agreement for the recently approved disaster declaration which was signed by the President.
This is the first time that the Tribe was able to apply for assistance directly as a sovereign entity apart from the state.
This historic signing ceremony will be held in the Tribal Chambers on Thursday, May 9th at 11:30.
All are invited.

On Wednesday, May 15th Meskwaki Nation Probation Department and the Staff and Workforce Development Program will be hosting a Job Skills Workshop.
This workshop will be from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm and held in the East Conference Room in the Tribal Center.
On the agenda: application process, resume building, interviewing skills, job readiness and other fun activities!

The next Tribal Council meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2019. It will start at 5:00 pm and be held in the Tribal Chambers.
Enrolled Tribal Members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
*Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis.

On April 8, 2019, the Tribal Council issued an Order for Special Election due to a resignation of a Tribal Council member, Harvey Davenport, Jr. The Special Election will fill one vacancy for the remainder of the term ending on November 2021.
On May 3, 2019, the Election Committee issued a notice for a Special Election to be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in the Tribal Gymnasium at the Sac and Fox Tribal Center on the Meskwaki Settlement from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Upon written request, absentee ballots will be made available to those who are temporarily living away from the Meskwaki Settlement as defined by the Title 8 (Elections) Article II, Section 8-2103 (b). Requests for an absentee ballot can be made via the following:

Notice of nomination meeting
A Nomination Meeting will be held on May 21, 2019 in the gymnasium at the Sac & Fox Tribal Center on the Meskwaki Settlement at 7:00 p.m.
If the attendance is less than 30% of eligible voters of the Tribe at the first Nomination Meeting, a second Nomination will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 7 pm.

Tribal Council has scheduled a General Meeting to take place on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the MBCH Convention Center.
