A night of fun and games for the whole family! Come play Bingo, Bags and Bone Dice.
Community members are encouraged to bring Elders so they can participate in the fun too! June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month – Engaging Elders in community activities is a great way to make an impact to prevent and address Elder Abuse.

Stop in to the Tribal Center on Friday, June 28th to say “farewell” to BIA Chief Michael Longhat and Officer Michael Cizek. Both have been helping out at the MPD for the last month.
At the gathering, meet the new BIA officers, Lee Simcox and Branden Hassett, coming to help out as the MPD continues to recruit new team members. You’ll also have the chance to get to know new and current Meskwaki Police Department officers too. Join us!

A Tribal Council meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2019. It will begin at 5:00 pm and take place in the Tribal Chambers.
Enrolled Tribal Members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
*Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis.

This Cooking Demo will be held at the Meskwaki Health Clinic (Lawn) and will have Grilling Kabobs – steak, chicken, veggies on the menu.
In case of rain or strong wings, the demo will be moved inside to the clinic kitchen.

At a Special Meeting on June 6, 2019, the Sac and Fox Tribal Council voted to establish the Meskwaki Settlement School Board. The board will initially be established through an election process on July 16, selecting from those individuals who have submitted a letter of interest and who meet the requirements.
School Board Member Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be either an enrolled Meskwaki Tribal Member OR a non-enrolled Meskwaki Descendant
- Must have an immediate family member who currently attends Meskwaki Settlement School. (Immediate family members include: children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews)
The board will consist of 6 members with staggered terms. 3 members will initially serve a 2-year term and 3 members will initially serve a 4-year term.
In lieu of nominations, please submit your letter of interest if you are interested in serving on the MSS Board.
Eligible voters include: Meskwaki Tribal Members aged 21 and over, and parents/guardians of students currently attending Meskwaki Settlement School.
Once elected, the School Board will work with the Tribal Council to develop School Board Policies.
A School Board Election will be held on July 16, 2019, selecting from those who have submitted a letter of interest. Letters of interest are due by July 5, 2019 at 4:30 P.M.

Meskwaki Settlement School Registration for the 2019-2020 School Year will begin Monday, July 22nd to Monday, August 19th. Registration hours are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Middle School/High School Offices.
First Day of School is Monday, August 19th!
What you need to bring with you: All students must have a copy of their CDIB, social security card, birth certificate, and current immunization records.
We ask that ALL families to please take the time to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal applications. These are very important so each family will receive a small token of appreciation when the application is completed and turned in.

Join MNR staff on Thursday, July 25th at 7:45 pm to experience the not-so-scary bats up close and personal!
Dr. Russ Benedict will be visiting the Settlement to mist-net bats and to give a presentation on them.
Meet in the High School parking lot (west side) at 7:45 pm. There will be a short presentation followed by the netting of bats.
Things to bring: Headlamp or flashlight, bug spray, sturdy shoes.

PURPOSE
Pursuant to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa “Any member of the Tribe who resides away from the reservation for a period of ten years and who has not within that time signified to the Tribal Council his desire to continue his membership in the Tribe but may later be adopted into the Tribe under the same membership status as previously enjoyed, by a majority vote of the Tribal Council after residing on the reservation for one year.”
For financial purposes the Tribal Council mandated an audit of all enrolled tribal members to occur every five (5) years to verify addresses, bank information, and update tribal identification. In order to accomplish this, all enrolled tribal members are required to present themselves in person to Tribal Council representatives.
PROCEDURE
The next membership audit will be July 29, 2019 through August 9, 2019 to accommodate all out of town tribal members.

All August 2019 per capita payments will only be available in paper check format. Per Capita checks will not be disbursed until the week of August 5th. Per capita payments that are regularly distributed by direct deposit or mail must be picked up in person upon completion of your audit. Direct deposit will resume with September 2019 per capita payments.
