Notice of Referendum Election

On September 15, 2021 the Sac & Fox Tribal Council issued an Order for Referendum Election to the Election Committee of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa by adopting Resolution 18-2021; which poses the following question to eligible voters:

Should current or future members of the Tribal Council be employed by the Tribal Government or any Tribal Enterprises, including Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel in any position other than management?”

Therefore, in accordance with Sec. 8-4705 of Title 8. Election Code, a Referendum Election shall be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 in the Tribal Gymnasium on the Meskwaki Settlement.  Polls will be open from 8:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

Upon written request absentee ballots will be made available to those eligible voters who request one by:

  1. Fax to the Sac & Fox Tribal Office, Attn: Election Committee at (641) 484-5424
  2. Mail to Sac & Fox Tribal Office, Attn: Election Committee, 349 Meskwaki Road, Tama, IA 52339
  3. Email to: el.committee@meskwaki-nsn.gov

All absentee ballot requests by fax, mail, or email must be received by September 24, 2021 at 4:30 P.M.

Absentee ballots and voting instructions will be mailed out to absentee voters by September 28, 2021.

All completed, notarized absentee ballots must be received by the Election Committee no later than 8:00 P.M. on October 8, 2021.

Primary Election

Primary Election today 8AM – 8PM for eligible members in the Tribal Gymnasium.

The Election Committee recommends, for the sake of the well-being and health of the tribal community, that voters follow CDC guidelines.

Unprecedented circumstances concerning Covid-19 have challenged common practices of the election voting process. However, it is prohibited that any eligible voter be denied their right to vote.

The process is as follows: There will be a drive-thru voting option for those in isolation. Please come to the Tribal Center parking lot and call (641) 484-4678 and someone will come out to help you. Please wear a mask and stay in your car.

2021 GENERAL ELECTION NOTICE:

GENERAL ELECTION:

The General Election shall be held at the Tribal Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 8:00 A.M – 8:00 P.M.

Masks will be required for entrance.  Please follow all CDC recommendations for entrance.

RUN-OFF ELECTION:

Run-Off Election, if necessary, shall be held at the Tribal Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 8:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

 

Sec. 8-2101 of Title 8. Election code of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa provides the following:

Except for an election to amend the Constitution or Bylaws of the Tribe, no individual shall be qualified to vote in any election unless the individual:

(a) Is a member of the Tribe;

(b) Is an adult on or before the date of the election;

(c) Was a resident of the Settlement for at least six months prior to the current or any previous election; and

(d) Is currently a resident of the State of Iowa

Furthermore, Sec. 8-2201 (a) states:

(a) “Adult” means an individual who is twenty-one years of age or older.

FOUR (4) TRIBAL COUNCIL POSITIONS ARE TO BE FILLED BY THE 2021 GENERAL ELECTION PROCESS.

Join the Meskwaki Health Clinic as they host an Indigenous Pink Day Fun Run for Breast Cancer Awareness on Thursday, October 21st at the Meskwaki Clinic.

Remember to wear PINK! There will be a ‘Wear Pink Contest’ that will have 1 adult winner and 1 youth winner! Wear your most creative pink outfit during the Indigenous Pink Day Walk/Run at the Meskwaki Clinic and win!

2021 Meskwaki Youth Deer Hunt – November 20th & 21st

Drawing Date: Saturday, October 23

Meskwaki Nation Police Department is inviting EIGHT (8) Meskwaki Youth (10-16rs) to go on a fun-filled day of deer harvesting with Conservation Officer Caleb Boyles, Sgt. Kole Northland, Officer Lee Simcox and Kimberly Schwartz (MNCSS)!

Hunt participants will have the opportunity to harvest two (2) deer!

  • First one to keep – hunter/family will be responsible for processing.
  • If a second one is harvested, deer will be processed by the State Center Meat Locker and distributed to the Meskwaki Community.

Participants will be determined in a raffle drawing!

If you entered your child in the turkey hunt and their name was not drawn, their name will automatically be entered TWICE in this hunt!

  • *MNPD Firearms instructor will instruct a Firearms Safety Course PRIOR to hunt.

Exciting news! The Knuckleheads Lacrosse was one of 40 Teams across the nation that was selected for a “Pickup and Play grant. Participants will receive a great introduction to the sport, get connected to their local community lacrosse organization, and receive a pinnie at no cost!

With Covid-19 precautions in mind, Tribal Council Members, key staff and individuals on the agenda will only be allowed in the meeting. This will be a temporary arrangement until further notice.
 
*Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis.

2021 GENERAL ELECTION NOTICE:

GENERAL ELECTION:

The General Election shall be held at the Tribal Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 8:00 A.M – 8:00 P.M.

Masks will be required for entrance.  Please follow all CDC recommendations for entrance.

RUN-OFF ELECTION:

Run-Off Election, if necessary, shall be held at the Tribal Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 8:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

 

Sec. 8-2101 of Title 8. Election code of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa provides the following:

Except for an election to amend the Constitution or Bylaws of the Tribe, no individual shall be qualified to vote in any election unless the individual:

(a) Is a member of the Tribe;

(b) Is an adult on or before the date of the election;

(c) Was a resident of the Settlement for at least six months prior to the current or any previous election; and

(d) Is currently a resident of the State of Iowa

Furthermore, Sec. 8-2201 (a) states:

(a) “Adult” means an individual who is twenty-one years of age or older.

FOUR (4) TRIBAL COUNCIL POSITIONS ARE TO BE FILLED BY THE 2021 GENERAL ELECTION PROCESS.

Meskwaki Family Services is hosting a fall festival for community members and their children. Come “pick” a pumpkin and a goody bag for your child!
 
This will be a grab-and-go event. There will be large pumpkins to choose from and a children’s goody bag available while supplies last. **Please limit one per person and to be mindful of social distancing recommendations.

Join the Meskwaki Health Clinic as they host an Indigenous Pink Day Fun Run for Breast Cancer Awareness on Thursday, October 21st at the Meskwaki Clinic.

Remember to wear PINK! There will be a ‘Wear Pink Contest’ that will have 1 adult winner and 1 youth winner! Wear your most creative pink outfit during the Indigenous Pink Day Walk/Run at the Meskwaki Clinic and win!

2021 Meskwaki Youth Deer Hunt – November 20th & 21st

Drawing Date: Saturday, October 23

Meskwaki Nation Police Department is inviting EIGHT (8) Meskwaki Youth (10-16rs) to go on a fun-filled day of deer harvesting with Conservation Officer Caleb Boyles, Sgt. Kole Northland, Officer Lee Simcox and Kimberly Schwartz (MNCSS)!

Hunt participants will have the opportunity to harvest two (2) deer!

  • First one to keep – hunter/family will be responsible for processing.
  • If a second one is harvested, deer will be processed by the State Center Meat Locker and distributed to the Meskwaki Community.

Participants will be determined in a raffle drawing!

If you entered your child in the turkey hunt and their name was not drawn, their name will automatically be entered TWICE in this hunt!

  • *MNPD Firearms instructor will instruct a Firearms Safety Course PRIOR to hunt.

Exciting news! The Knuckleheads Lacrosse was one of 40 Teams across the nation that was selected for a “Pickup and Play grant. Participants will receive a great introduction to the sport, get connected to their local community lacrosse organization, and receive a pinnie at no cost!
