VA will be holding a Bringing VA Benefits Home event here on the Meskwaki Settlement on Friday, August 2nd from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm in the East Conference Room of the Tribal Center.
During this event you’ll be able to:
- Speak with a VA representative
- Get answers to VA claim and benefits questions
- File your claim
- Get same-day decisions when you share complete information

PURPOSE
Pursuant to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa “Any member of the Tribe who resides away from the reservation for a period of ten years and who has not within that time signified to the Tribal Council his desire to continue his membership in the Tribe but may later be adopted into the Tribe under the same membership status as previously enjoyed, by a majority vote of the Tribal Council after residing on the reservation for one year.”
For financial purposes the Tribal Council mandated an audit of all enrolled tribal members to occur every five (5) years to verify addresses, bank information, and update tribal identification. In order to accomplish this, all enrolled tribal members are required to present themselves in person to Tribal Council representatives.
PROCEDURE
The next membership audit will be July 29, 2019 through August 9, 2019 to accommodate all out of town tribal members.

- August 3, 2019 from 9:00am-1:00pm
- August 5, 2019 through August 7, 2019 from 8:30am-4:00pm
- August 8, 2019 through August 9, 2019 from 8:30am-11:30am
All August 2019 per capita payments will only be available in paper check format. Per Capita checks will not be disbursed until the week of August 5th. Per capita payments that are regularly distributed by direct deposit or mail must be picked up in person upon completion of your audit. Direct deposit will resume with September 2019 per capita payments.

Community Engagement Opportunity regarding the Meskwaki Recreation Center
August 6, 2019 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. This is the last chance to share your thoughts about the recreation center.
Meskwaki Recreation Center 3D Virtual Reality Walk-though on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm in the ISG Tent at the Annual Powwow.
Take a 3D tour through the Ho-Chunk District One Community Center showcasing the project’s concepts and plan elements.

Route: North to railroad tracks, turn right (East) on gravel road to Hwy E49 and back to cook shack.
Seniors need only walk to railroad tracks and back.

Come pick up your school supplies for the new school year! Also, FREE haircuts will be offered as well!

The next Tribal Council meeting has been scheduled to be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm and be held in the Tribal Chambers.
Enrolled Tribal Members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
