We were honored to host the Chicago Bears youth football clinic staff at the Meskwaki Tribal Museum for a special tour on Friday led by Historic Preservation Director Johnathan Buffalo.
Johnathan shared the powerful story of the Meskwaki people – whose homelands once spanned Canada to the Midwest – and how our ancestors reclaimed land near Tama, Iowa, becoming the only U.S. tribe to buy back part of our homeland with our own funds.
The Bears staff asked great questions and showed a strong interest in Meskwaki history, especially our connection to sports. Thank you to the Bears for your respect and curiosity, and to Johnathan for sharing our story so thoughtfully!
