Museum Donation

Three beautiful works of art by Meskwaki artist Frank Pushetonequa Jr. have come full circle. Originally gifted to the Drilling family, longtime friends of the artist, they have now been generously donated back to the Meskwaki Tribal Museum by Marty Drilling, son of Gerald and Joanne Drilling. The friendship began in the 1960s when Joanne taught school alongside Frank’s wife.

The donated pieces include a self-portrait, a charcoal depiction of a Native American man, and a portrait of a building, each of which once hung in the Drilling family’s homes in Waterloo and Gilbertville, Iowa. This meaningful gesture helps preserve and celebrate Meskwaki heritage and the legacy of Frank Pushetonequa Jr.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Drilling family for their generosity and commitment to preserving Meskwaki art and culture.

You can view these pieces at the Meskwaki Cultural Center and Museum, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
