It was a high energy night of basketball at South Tama as the Meskwaki Settlement Warriors took part in the annual Jam the Gym event, with the Meskwaki community packing the visitors section wall-to-wall in strong support.
The girls varsity team delivered a gritty performance, earning a 38 to 33 win over South Tama County after a strong 4th quarter comeback. Trailing at the break, Meskwaki tightened up defensively and found momentum on offense to swing the game in their favor. Martha Blackcloud led the Warriors with 14 points, while Dorothy Bear added 11 points and helped anchor the defense. Eva Roberts contributed 5 points, and the team forced 30 turnovers, turning defensive pressure into key scoring opportunities down the stretch.
The boys varsity game was another battle that stayed close until the final moments, with Meskwaki fighting throughout before falling 67 to 47. One of the biggest highlights of the night came just before halftime when junior Layne Steuhm drilled an incredible, nearly full-court shot at the buzzer, sending the Meskwaki crowd into a frenzy and drawing cheers from spectators across the gym.
