Warrior basketball took center stage at Meskwaki High School on January 8 as the Meskwaki varsity teams hosted Colfax-Mingo in a home matchup, with strong community support filling the gym from start to finish.
The Lady Warriors continued their dominant stretch, securing a commanding 63 to 24 victory and holding onto first place in the Iowa Star South Conference. Meskwaki controlled the game on both ends of the floor, using pressure defense and balanced scoring to pull away early and never look back. Dorothy Bear led all scorers with 22 points on 10 of 16 shooting, while also adding 5 steals. Eva Roberts contributed 10 points, and Dayeci Davenport added 8 points and 10 rebounds. The Warriors finished with 25 made field goals and forced 29 turnovers, showcasing their depth, discipline, and defensive intensity in another statement win.
The boys varsity game was another hard fought contest that stayed competitive until the final moments, with Meskwaki battling throughout before falling 60 to 42. Jarvis Bear paced the Warriors with 21 points, going 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Jace Thompson pulled down 10 rebounds, while Nathan Bear added 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, and a steal. Despite the final score, the game remained within reach late as the Warriors continued to fight on every possession and showed resilience down the stretch.
It was another strong night for Meskwaki basketball, highlighted by the girls continued dominance at the top of the conference and the boys determination in yet another close battle on their home floor.
