Moccasin Class

Meskwaki Senior Services recently hosted a workshop focused on traditional Meskwaki moccasin making. The class, held June 10–12, was led by Wanda Lasley and offered participants the opportunity to learn the art of crafting moccasins using deer skin leather.

Throughout the three-day class, attendees were guided through each step of the process, from cutting patterns to stitching and shaping the final product, all while taking part in the cultural significance of moccasin making within the Meskwaki community.

Ketebi to Wanda Lasley for sharing her knowledge and skills, and to all who participated in preserving and continuing this important tradition.

Meskwaki Senior Services is excited to announce the next textile workshop: the Meskwaki Two Piece Class, led by instructor Gia Brown-Bear. This hands-on class will take place June 30 – July 2 and offers participants the chance to learn how to create a traditional two-piece outfit.
