🟥 2025 MMIW+MMIP Awareness Walk 🟥
On Friday, May 30, Meskwaki Family Services and RISE (Rise for Indigenous Survivors and Empowerment) held the 2025 MMIW+MMIP Awareness Walk. This event brings attention to the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, and Indigenous Peoples.
We walked in honor of all those taken too soon, and especially for Rita Papakee, a Meskwaki woman missing since January 2015. Rita’s disappearance continues to impact her family and our community. Her story reminds us why we must keep raising awareness and demanding justice.
The MMIW/MMIP crisis affects Indigenous communities across the country. Events like this walk are vital in keeping these stories alive and pushing for change.
Thank you to everyone who came out and showed support. Let’s keep walking, speaking, and fighting for those who are missing and those who can’t speak for themselves.
