Girls Wrestling Spotlight at South Tama

Girls wrestling took the spotlight on February 2 at South Tama as eight teams from across Iowa gathered for a competitive middle school tournament featuring rising talent from around the state. Meskwaki Middle School wrestlers and Meskwaki students competing for South Tama both delivered strong performances throughout the evening.

Meskwaki Middle School had an outstanding showing. Naya Walker placed first after earning two wins by fall, including a 12 to 8 victory and a 7 to 4 decision, demonstrating endurance and control throughout her matches. Tariah Grant also finished in first place, securing two lightning fast wins with pins at 23 and 36 seconds. Both wrestlers showcased explosive offense and confidence from the opening whistle.

For South Tama, Jaiyla Keahna placed second in her bracket, earning a win by fall in just 48 seconds and finishing the day with a 6 to 1 victory over Union Community. Kayda Wolf also took second place, picking up two wins including a quick 25 second fall and a hard fought 4 to 3 decision. Malayiah Butts dominated her bracket, placing first with a fast 34 second fall over BCLUW. Taviah Rosenberger also claimed first place, recording two victories including a 6 to 2 win and a pin at 1:01. Each wrestler showed composure, toughness, and strong mat awareness against quality competition.
