Referendum Election

On February 23, 2022 the Sac & Fox Tribal Council issued an Order of Referendum Election to the Election Committee of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa by adopting Resolution 07-2022; which poses the following question to eligible voters:

“Should the authorization by Tribal Council of the loan agreement with Key Government Finance, Inc. for financing of the new rec center be approved or rejected?”

Therefore, in accordance with Sec. 8-4705 of Title 8. Election Code, a Referendum Election shall be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 in the Tribal Gymnasium on the Meskwaki Settlement. Polls will be open from 8:00AM – 8:00PM.

Upon written request absentee ballots will be made available to those eligible voters who request one by:

1. FAX to the Sac & Fox Tribal Office, Attn: Election Committee at (641) 484-5424

2. MAIL to Sac & Fox Tribal Office, Attn: Election Committee, 349 Meskwaki Road, Tama, IA 52339

3. EMAIL to [email protected]

Absentee ballot requests by fax, mail, or email must be received by March 3, 2022 at 4:30PM.

Absentee ballots and voting instructions will be mailed out to absentee voters by March 3, 2022.

All completed, notarized absentee ballots must be received by the Election Committee no later than 8:00PM on March 3, 2022.

Sec. 8-2101. Eligible Voter. Except for an election to amend the Constitution or Bylaws of the Tribe, no individual shall be qualified to vote in any election unless the individual: (a) Is a member of the Tribe; (b) Is an adult on ro before the date of the elction; (c) Was a resident of the Settlement for a least six months prior to the current or any previous election; and (d) is currently a resident of the State of Iowa.
