Colon Cancer Awareness Month

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and the CHR department will be offering Colon Cancer Screening tests! All participants will receive a gift bag,  then once the completed test is returned participants will receive a gift certificate to the Meskwaki Travel Plaza.

Among the cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Precancerous polyps and colorectal cancer don’t always cause symptoms.

Symptoms:

  • Bloody stools
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Constipation/Diarrhea

Risk factors:

  • Smoking
  • Heavy consumption of alcohol
  • Lake of physical exercise
  • Obesity/Diet
  • Family history – (if you have a family history you should be screened ten (10) years before the age your relative was diagnosed.)

The best test is the one that gets done! Remember, COLON CANCER IS PREVENTABLE, TREATABLE AND BEATABLE.
