MY Leadership Council Informational Meeting to be held on October 5, 2021

Meskwaki Youth is looking for Youth in Grades 5-12th to sign up for the MY Leadership Council.  The Mission and Goals for the Leadership Council are:

Mission:

To build purpose driven leaders in and around the Meskwaki Community.

Goals:

  • Youth will feel empowered as leaders to make change in their community through community service lead projects.
  • Youth will set goals and determine how to measure success of their community service experiences.
  • Youth will take healthy risks and build supportive relationships with their peers.

There will be an information Meeting held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 5:30PM until 6:30PM at Meskwaki Apprenticeship (3138 H Ave).

MYDP’s Youth Recreation Basketball League

Meskwaki Youth Program is proud to start the first ever Youth Recreation Basketball League.

If you would like to sign up please login to your Parent Portal at www.meskwakiyouth.org

Once logged in go to Sports/Recreation Tab > MYDP Recreation Button at bottom of page > Basketball)

Registration & Fee Deadline October 4, 2021 5:30PM

Cost to Play: $30 (Shirt & water bottle included) Scholarships NOT Available for this activity. Parents that volunteer to coach will receive $10 discount on their registration fee for one (1) child and a coach T-shirt.

Practices Start October 18, 2021.

PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

Open to all natives on or near the Meskwaki Community!

Deadline to Enter: October 27, 2021 at 11:59 PM

Cash prizes: Youth $50 // Adults: $100

One submission per person. One youth and one adult winner per category.

Picture submissions for 2022 Veteran’s Calendar

It is almost Veteran’s Day and the Meskwaki Youth Program are making a 2022 calendar for the veterans of the Meskwaki community. If any veteran or family member would like to share a picture for the calendar, please bring it to MYP or email it to assist3.myp@meskwaki-nsn.gov. They are accepting pictures until October 1st.

MYP School Supply Giveaway

Greetings Parents and Colleagues,

It’s that time of year again –Back to school. We are excited to announce or School Supply Giveaway.  Signups are available now on your parent portal (Instructions Attached).

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO APPLY FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES ON MYDP PORTAL

You can also sign up by phone 641-484-5369 starting Thursday August 5, 2021 @9AM, or Walk-in applications located at 3138 H Ave (Apprenticeship Building) Mask required.

Other Information:

  1. No Deadline to sign up;
  2. Supply list that we can provide is attached to this email, it’s also available in your Parent Portal;
  3. Pickups are by appointment only that will start on Tuesday August 17, 2020 at 3 PM.  You will be by notified via email when your supplies are ready for pickup. *New this year-you can book your appointment online in the parent portal or via email notification.

Important MYP Notice – Spring Break Activities

From the Meskwaki Youth Program Office:

“Greetings Families, Friends, & Colleagues,

One of our top priorities here at the Meskwaki Nation Youth Development Program has been to keep our children safe. So with this being said due to concerns regarding the spread of coronavirus, we will cancel all Spring Break activities scheduled off the Settlement. Cancelled activities include: “Get Air”, Science Center, Bowling and the Mall/Movie. All other activities will remain on the Settlement they include: Basketball Camps, Open Gyms, and the Bounce House will continue as planned. Additional cleaning and disinfecting measures will be incorporated and additional preventative measures including deep cleaning of toys and equipment along with the teaching of everyday safety precautions will be enacted to to keep our youth safe.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support and dedication to our program we know you that you have a choice to participate with us. We really appreciate all of you and look forward to seeing your children at our scheduled on settlement events!”

Career Awakenings Expo on Tuesday and Thursday

Here’s a sneak peek of all the presenters coming to the Workforce Development Career Awakenings Expo happening on Tuesday and Thursday evening from 4:30 – 7;30 PM at the Meskwaki Settlement School.  In conjunction with Parent Teacher Conferences being held,  youth and adults are invited to hear about career opportunities in our community.  Be a part of this exciting informational opportunity!  Supper and prizes will be served each night!

Meskwaki and Native American Artisans Wanted

Are you an artisan who is interested in sharing your expertise in Meskwaki or Native American craftsmanship with youth ages 6 to 13? Do you hope to inspire native youth to learn the skill of a traditional craft? If you answered yes, then Meskwaki Youth Program is looking for you!

Meskwaki Youth Program is looking for Meskwaki and Native American artisans!

MYP’s goal is to provide a unique learning experience for native youth so they may gain the skills and confidence needed to create traditional arts, crafts and attire.

More Details:

  • Starts Tuesday, June 2nd, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (1 day is aquatic day)
  • Will be given honorariums for time worked
  • Supplies and materials will be purchased/supplied by MYP
  • MYP Assistants will be on-hand for support
  • Must fill out application and W-9
  • Must successfully pass background check
