Meskwaki Senior Services hosted the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Meskwaki Recreation Center. Erica Eikren, Program Manager of the Alzheimer’s Association, Iowa Chapter, delivered a brief presentation prior to the walk. Participants showed their support for the cause while enjoying complimentary event T-shirts and walking tacos.
At the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, participants carry colored flowers during the Promise Garden Ceremony. Each color represents a person’s unique connection to the disease. The Flower Colors and Meanings: Blue: Carried by someone who is living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Purple: Carried by an individual who has lost a loved one to the disease. Yellow: Carried by someone who is currently caring for or supporting a person with Alzheimer’s. Orange: Carried by a participant who supports the cause and the vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. White: Carried by a single participant to represent the first survivor of Alzheimer’s, symbolizing hope for a future cure.
