MESKWAKI NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

Starting in 2002, the Meskwaki Natural Resources Department began implementing the Radon Control Project, attempting to test every building on the Settlement for radon.

Since that time, over 275 homes/businesses on the Settlement have been tested for radon with approximately 40% of those buildings testing over 4.0 pCi/L (the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's recommended level for radon in the air).

For the homes with high radon levels, the Meskwaki Housing Department has successfully taken on the challenge of fixing the homes to reduce the high concentrations of radon found to an acceptable level.
