Historical Preservation Department

Historical Preservation’s mission is to research, archive, protect, conserve, and perpetuate the traditional resources of the Meskwaki Nation a.k.a. Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa.

The department distributes historical information about the tribe, install and maintain museum displays at the Tribal Center and the Meskwaki Bingo, Casino & Hotel.

Under a Federal law, NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection Repatriation Act), the department is able to bring back human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony from museums or Federal agencies.

Substantial energy has been invested in building a Museum & Cultural Center and we will continue to invest time and effort towards achieving this goal.
